about

Nine broken transmissions, entries of a journal that doesn't exist.

The seadrome concept was supposed to be something approaching an airport in the middle of the ocean, replete with a hotel, restaurant, and accompanying facilities. It was devised during an era when transatlantic flights weren’t a given. These floating steel platforms were going to glide over massive waves, acting as a safe place for commercial flights to refuel, and a comfortable spot for passengers to rest.

The idea never really came to fruition, despite the best efforts of its inventor, Edward Robert Armstrong, who quit his job at DuPont to focus on its development in the late 1920s. The advent of long-range aircraft rendered the seadrome obsolete before it was even implemented. The technology was later used towards other applications, but never reached the level of ubiquity it otherwise would.
